Please welcome Sugar
She is an 8 year old Red Dun Quarter horse mare, arrived 10/15/08. I'm not sure how she ended up in this shape, but we're gonna make her beautiful again. She is so sweet and has excellent ground manners. She has a great deal of loose skin, which is a sign she was a big girl with muscle at one time. Our vet was out on Friday, 10/17, and said her teeth are good and she just needs groceries. She has an injury to her right front leg that is causing discomfort when flexed. He recommended three to six months of rest. We will have a follow up check in 3 months to see if there has been any progress. She is not showing any signs of lameness at this time so hopefully it will be fine and he will then clear her for light riding so we can test her under saddle. Until then she will be relaxing and filling out. We will update soon.

UPDATE: 3/2/09
The vet will be coming out this week to recheck her leg and hopefully clear her for riding. She has come a long way and is a very smart girl. She is playful and willing. We have lunged her online and free lunged her and she is excellent at both. She is a perfect lady on the ground and is great for farrier, bathing, vet, etc. She stands perfectly for saddling and mouting. We haven't gone and farther with her due to waiting for vet clearance, but so far she is a great horse! New pics as of 3/5/09. The vet was out today to check her out and said she has made a full recovery. He gave a body score of 5, which is perfect. Now she just needs to build those muscles. Her leg is perfect! She is going to be a wonderful riding partner for only the perfect loving family. Sugar will be adopted out on a contract to ensure she never ends up in bad hands again. We will post an update as soon as she is adopted and will provide regular updates as she adjusts in her new home. This is a very special girl and she has stolen all of our hearts. I wish we could keep her, but I can't keep all of them.

**UPDATE** 3/11/09
SUGAR WAS ADOPTED OUT TODAY TO SOME VERY NICE FOLKS IN MELROSE. SHE WILL ALWAYS HOLD A VERY SPECIAL PLACE IN OUR HEARTS AND WILL BE CHECKED ON PERIODICALLY TO MAKE SURE SHE IS GETTING THE BEST OF CARE. WE WILL BE VISITING HER IN HER NEW HOME THIS SATURDAY, 3/14 AND WILL POST NEW PICS AND AN UPDATE ON HER AT HER NEW HOME.
